Become A Member

1. Do we have to be members of the Yakima Athletic Club? No.

2. Is there an age requirement to the swim team? No, however swimmers should be very comfortable in the water, has the ability to stay on task and be attentive to a coach. 

3. How soon can we compete? At your earliest convenience.

4. Is there a tryout before joining the team? Not for Jump-Start graduates or swimmers that have had previous experience in competitive swimming.

5. Is YAC Swimming seasonal? YAC Swimming is a year round competitive swim program with two seasons. Short Course season runs September through March and the Long Course season runs April through August.

6. How do I know my swimmer is ready for competitive swimming?  When your swimmers feels confident in his/her swimming ability.

7. What's the 1st step to join YAC Swimming? Read our program flyers to determine the correct program for your swimmer, and if further deliberation is required contact assistant coach Lexie Sturges.

Swim Team Jump-Start

1. What ages are allowed to participate? Age 5 and older.

2. Is Jump-Start a swim team program? Jump-Start is part of the Yakima Athletic Club swim lesson program which is taught by a swim team coach.

3. Do we have to be members of the Yakima Athletic Club? No.

4. What attire does my swimmer need? Swim suit, towel, and goggles are recommended.

6. How soon after completion of Jump-Start may my child join the swim team? Immediately.

FAQ - 90-Day Trial

1. Are we expected to do any fund raising? We like you to assist if you can even though you're not required to actually fund raise. It's a great way to meet other members and learn about our fund raising system.

2. Can we Compete? Yes. Be sure to note that entries are completed well in advance of the actual competition.

3. If we decide to stop in the middle of the 90 days can we get a refund or transfer the remaining value? No. The 90-day trial is a fixed fee. It is not transferable and not refundable, in whole or in part.

4. Do we have to be members of the Yakima Athletic Club? No - membership is not required to be on swim team

5. Is the 90 days the actual number of practices we attend? No. The program is 90 continuous calendar days.

6. Do we have to participate in workdays? Yes. Enrollees in the program at the time of the dome installation or removal you are expected to assist. You will be contacted about the two workdays we have each year.

7. Do we have to help with swim meets? If you child enters a meet we host we do require you to assist with the meet. If you don't have anyone entered we still encourage you to assist to learn about out meet operations, to experience a swim meet firsthand and to meet other members of the swimming community in the northwest. We host two weekend-long meets each year. One near the end of January in Ellensburg and one on Father's Day weekend in Wapato or Toppenish.

College Athletes

1. Do we have to be members of the Yakima Athletic Club? No membership is required.

2. Can we Compete in local swim meets? Yes, it is expected that you will.

3. Do we have to be a NCAA athlete to participate in this program?  You must have graduated from high school.

4. Do we have to help with swim meets? Yes, for meets we host you may be asked to help. 

Bring A Friend

1. Do we have to be members of the Yakima Athletic Club? No - membership is not required.

2. Is there a fee? There is no fee.

3. Can we come any time of the year? There are designated Bring A Friend months, check our website for updates.

4. Does my child have to be a strong swimmer? Your swimmer should be very comfortable in the water with some swim lesson experience.

5. Can we come more than once during the Bring A Friend month? There is a limit of one visit during the Bring A Friend month.

6. What attire should my swimmer have? A one piece swim suit, towel, and goggles are recommended.
