The results of the 2005 Swim-a-Thon have been tabulated and posted. A total of $2,778,520.50 was raised nationwide with 375 clubs participating. In September, USA Swimming designed a unique “match or exceed” program by encouraging its nearly 3,000 clubs in the United States to designate an additional contribution of its Swim-A-Thon proceeds toward Katrina relief.
Mecklenburg Aquatic Club from North Carolina set a new Swim-a-Thon record, raising over $117,000. YAC Swimming from Washington topped the per swimmer average leader board. YAC's 45 swimmers averaged over $707 each. The top individual, raising $8,000, was Germantown Academy Aquatic Club's Ralph Clayton.
