General Description

                   The 90-Day Trial begins on the first day of practice attendance and continues for 90 continuous calendar days, not training days or total practices.  The start and end dates will be clearly indicated on the contract that you will be given.  During their 90-Day Trial swimmers are permitted to compete in swim meets and other team events.

            The first week of the 90-Day Trial is free. The $200 fee must be paid in full by the beginning of the second week. This one–time fee is non refundable, not transferable, and will not reduced for swimmers for any reason.

            Upon completing the 90-Day Trial  swimmers may choose to continue training with YAC Swimming by entering into our regular fee program. For more information please visit our website, see our team flyer, or call coach Lexie Sturges.

 

Training Purpose

¨       Introduction to basic biomechanics in each of the four racing strokes, starts, and turns

¨       Introduction to core skill drills

¨       Introduction to rule related skills

¨       Goal Setting:

~      Introduction to goal setting resources and worksheets.

Recommended Prerequisites

¨       At least 6 years of age - although we have a lot of swimmers starting  earlier.

¨       Successful completion of Level 5 or Level 6 swim lessons or equivalent (Red Cross) or previous swim team experience.

Fees & Terms

¨       First week is free!

¨       Fee: $200 dollars due beginning of 2nd week

¨       Fee covers these items as needed:

~      Athlete membership in USA Swimming

~      YAC Swimming Initiation Fee

~      YAC Swimming training fees

~      Yakima Athletic Club Pool Use Fee

~      One YAC Swimming team cap

¨       The fee will not be reduced for enrollees who may have memberships or previously paid fees under other programs duplicating any of the expenses associated with this fee.

Practice Schedule

¨       Mini Team:

~      Ages 8 and younger only

~      Ability: entry level and novice

~      Minimum recommended attendance: Twice weekly

~      Monday -Thursday, 5:00-5:45 PM

¨       Seahawks:

~      Ages 9 and older

~      Ability: entry level and novice

~      Minimum recommended attendance: Three times  weekly

~      Monday - Friday, 5:00-6:00 PM

¨       A Team:

~      Ages 11-16

~      Ability: Good motor skills in all strokes, starts, and turns

~      Minimum recommended attendance: Four times weekly

~      Monday-Friday, 5:00-6:30 PM

       ¨       All Star Team & National Team:

            ~ Ages 13 - College

            ~ Ability: Excellent skills in all strokes, starts and turns; substantial competition experience.

            ~ Minimum recommended attendance; five times weekly.

            ~ Monday - Friday, 5:20 - 7:00 AM and some Saturdays.

Purpose: The pursuit of excellence in competitive swimming.

Mission: Provide the finest competitive swimming instruction in central Washington by offering competitors of all ages and abilities the opportunity to improve their technical ability, psychological skills and physical conditioning in a goal oriented environment where swimmers learn to swim well and race with confidence.

Training Program Philosophy: Develop confident, high-performing competitive swimmers by emphasizing the acquisition of correct technique and motor control skills in young and inexperienced athletes and emphasizing sprint and middle distance race training via aerobic development, anaerobic threshold improvement and a variety of strength exercises in highly experienced teenage and older athletes.

Staff: 

Lexie Sturges - Head coach and administrative assistant for YAC Swimming since 2005. Lexie is a 2004 graduate of Washington State University raised in Richland, Washington.  Lexie coached with the Tri-City Channel Cats in the Richland/Kennewick/Pasco area before entering her current position.
